You will find a ton of photos to get a feel for the intrigue and intelligence that we experienced at our first visit to Chatfield School.

As always Marjorie Arquette and Jennifer Jarosz never shy away from community support. From chicken soup at local winter festivals to facilities for benefit dinners for our sick. As many know Jennifer is the president of REM and neck deep in the efforts to open our new school. In addition her mother, Marjorie is right there supporting us every step of the way. Be sure to stop in at the Hen House and help support the owners of the Hen House as they will surely continue to support our community.

We would like to share the resolution adopted by our township board members. Just another example of the bond our community shares irregardless of some political differences.

RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A CHARTER SCHOOL
DISTRICT IN RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP
WHEREAS,
Having a school St. Helen is a vital, essential asset to this community.
WHEREAS,
The location of a school in St. Helen is fundamental for the parents and guardians who drive
their children to and from school.
WHEREAS,
The location of a school in St. Helen is fundamental to the local economy in such that the
growth and stability of our community will be affected if the school is no longer available;
including property values, local jobs, and persons moving into or out of the community.
WHEREAS,
The location of a school in St. Helen is fundamental to participation of parents, guardians and
students in after school activities, parent-teacher conferences, problem resolutions, and
communication with the teaching staff.
WHEREAS,
The location of a school in St. Helen is fundamental to the amount of ride time on school
busses. Not having a school in St. Helen directly affects the ride time, the direct contact with
older students, the safety of younger students, and the increasing number of bus riders due to
parents or guardians who are currently transporting their children to and from school being
unable to bear the additional transportation expense.
WHEREAS,
The location of a school in St. Helen is vital to the attendance of children in the area due to the
convenience of Kindergarten through 12th grades for students from not only St. Helen, but
Roscommon and Houghton Lake also. Not having a school in St. Helen would encourage
parents to send their children to closer schools such as West Branch or Houghton Lake, or
utilize options such as private schools and home schooling.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that
We, The Richfield Township Board, resolve that we support developing a public school in St.
Helen to the extent that Richfield Township will be willing to lease to a Charter School District
enough township property sufficient for the establishment of a Charter School for the amount
of one dollar per year.
